Help! My plants are dying. What is wrong with them? There are hundreds of thousands of viruses, bacteria, fungi and insects that love to dine on garden plants. Because of Georgia's warm and humid environment, we play host to a few more pests than states in other parts of the country. To be able to answer your question accurately please book a Garden Improvement Coaching session with me so I can investigate your issue.

How can I have an organic garden?Organic gardening is absolutely possible, but something I like for all of my clients to understand is that it is more time consuming and more costly than using synthetic pesticides. Often times, organic gardeners have to be willing to "sacrifice" part of their crop to nature. That being said, there are some disease resistant varieties that can overcome some pest pressure. There are also some plant families that do better here in the hot and humid south than others, so choosing wisely before you plant is important. If you would like to learn more specifics about starting and maintaining an organic garden please book a Garden Establishment or Garden Improvement Coaching Session with me.

When can I plant my summer garden? Most gardeners in our area follow the rule of thumb to not sow their summer crop outside until Mother's Day. If you get the itch to plant in April just be advised you may lose some plants to a late spring frost. Certain vegetables, such as tomatoes and peppers, do not do well in temps under 55 degrees and future growth will be stunted. If you plan on starting your plants from seed the directions on the seed packet will let you know how many weeks the plants will need indoors before being transplanted outside. I love the resource, Clyde's Garden Planter. When you are using it, just be sure to select a location with a similar climate to yours such as Athens or Chattanooga.
