Garden Over Rock
It is not uncommon in eastern Ontario to find yourself trying to garden on the Canadian Shield where mere inches below the surface sit unmovable rock. Andi and Dave Bianco have successfully met this challenge by building up the soil and choosing appropriate plants.
Their gardens in spring bring gentle colour to the woodsy background. To view a larger picture just click on the image and then click on “back” to return to this page.
Forget-me-nots abound! From bed to bed this airy blue flower unites the entire garden in spring with its delicate beauty. Elsewhere in the garden a blue violet peeks out from under a small garden statue and the pinks of the chives and moss phlox bring balance and harmony to the garden.
In a separate corner a very striking vignette is created with a blue chair artfully planted in a woodsy corner reflecting the colour of the bugleweed flowers in spring.
By summer, the Biano garden is in full bloom with perennials, annuals, groundcovers and a bed of hosta.
Finally, the surrounding woodland has given the Bianco’s a unique opportunity to create a small woodland path that joins one section of the garden to another.
