Rock gardens are usually situated in sunny, dry spots. Plants for these locations often include succulents, drought tolerant groundcovers and alpine plants. A excellent source of rock garden plants is Rockwall Gardens outside of Perth. Some of the most useful rock garden plants include:

Hens & Chicks - probably the best known of the rock garden plants, there is a variety of Hens ‘n Chicks available with different foliage colours.

Lewesia - this alpine plant grows only 3-4″ tall and the same across but it puts out lovely flowers in late May.
